FInally, an article in Yahoo Philippines talking about the possible revival of baseball. I mean come on, what are you talking about, of course it can be revived, and it should be Revived. Stop all the basketball frenzy, it;'s ok to love the sport but i guess not to the point of deliberately pushing ourselves to hope and wish that we can actually compete with the best in Asia, not to say, well, internationally.?
I have nothing against basketball, I've learned the game as early as i did baseball, and have become a pretty decent ball player after all those years of playing too. But the end of our hopes with the sport is coming to an end, Smart Gilas can hardly beat middle eastern countries, or countries who've just learned the game a mere 5 to 10 years ago.
Unless these formulated milks we have on market right now create 6 footers off our babies in the next 10 to 15 years, i'd say we stick to cheering our PBA's All FIlipino Cups.
So here is my comment i posted on the article - and because I dont have time to blog right now, i'd keep the rest of my thoughts to myself for now.
Baseball is a beautiful game. iI'm a fan of basketball american football and soccer and other sports too, but the joy and the "high" one gets from baseball is totally different. it;s like a heart attack divided in to 9 innings someone said.
I grew up in cavite, one of those little leaguers who beat the US in the 90's was one of my playmates, and moving to zamboanga city, i marveled watching some of them grow up and still play the game because of their love of the sport. I played the game throughout my life, even now that i'm working and i have a family, i look for an avenue to play.
I absolutely have no doubt in my mind that Filipinos can excel in baseball. We have the knowledge and history of the sport, we have experienced elders who can inspire and teach kids. WHat we need is the avenue and the right amount of support to boost the sports popularity. Once we get people interested again, we can start improving our game, techniques, facilities etc.
